Le Rêve - Transitions + Thanks

Beginning next month, I'll no longer be serving as Editor of the CCAI blog. For a final post, I submit a visually stunning video from Brandon Flowers' debut album "Flamingo." Mr. Flowers, best known as the lead singer of The Killers, is one of Las Vegas and Nevada's most distinguished artists.

Directed by the prolific music video director Sophie Muller [The Dixie Chick's" Not Ready to Make Nice" and scores more], the video was shot at the theater of Steve Wynn's "Wynn" casino in Las Vegas, Mr. Flowers' home town.

Full screen viewing with headphones recommended!

My thanks and best wishes to our readers for their interest over the last four and a half years!

Editor, The CCAI Blog!

The Radiant City installed in the Carson City Courthouse Gallery!

To all our friends and colleagues in 'no_NV:' we send this reminder that The Radiant City is on view at the Carson City Courthouse. Click below for details and gallery hours.

Above are a few views of Justin Favela's "Estardas." [Click on graphic to enlarge.] Our continuing thanks to Justin for his contribution to the show and his invaluable help transporting all the work in the show from Las Vegas to Carson City.

[NB: A happy coincidence given Las Vegas' rich history of gaming, we note that this post is the lucky 711th to the CCAI Blog! which launched in October 2006.]

Wondrous Cold

Nevada Museum of Art
160 West Liberty Street
Reno

Wondrous Cold, An Antarctic Journey
Photographs by Joan Myers

"...an exhibition of 50 spectacular color and black-and-white photographs, juxtaposes large panoramas of Antarctica’s beauty and desolation with scenes of wildlife, people, and the abandoned historic huts of early explorers. Smaller images document the scientists who conduct research at McMurdo Station -- one of several American scientific research stations built in the 1950s and still active today -- and the support staff who keep the station functioning.

Award-winning photographer Joan Myers, recipient of an Antarctic Artists and Writers Program grant from the National Science Foundation’s Office of Polar Programs, spent four months photographing scientific study and daily life at McMurdo Station working in below-freezing temperatures with wind chills as low as -60 degrees. She also made trips to the interior by plane, helicopter, and snowmobile.

Through April 3

Life & Times

Brett Wesley Gallery
1112 S. Casino Center Blvd.
Las Vegas

Life and Times
Diane Bush | Curtis Walker

Opening and artist reception: Thursday February 3 | 6–9 pm

Through February 26

"This exhibition showcases photographs of people, situations and juxtaposing the past and the now – a 35-year gap. Some look staged; others look in the moment. Fascinating ideas for the viewers to explore are the gulf of time and also the aesthetic differences between a young photographer emerging in 21st century and shaped by his media experiences, Vegas, etc., and a late career photographer shaped by the youth quake and turmoil of the 70s."
