Visiting Artist Lecture – University of Nevada, Reno

HILARY HARKNESS

Thursday October 26, 2006 – 6pm
Room 153, Church Fine Arts Complex

"With great pleasure the Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery and UNR Art Department present internationally acclaimed artist Hilary Harkness to Northern Nevada. Ms. Harkness will conduct studio visits with UNR BA, BFA and MFA students during the day and present a free public lecture on her artwork in the evening.

Ms. Harkness has had an interesting if not controversial career as a painter thus far. With painterly meticulousness she only creates five or less works a year. Her narrative subject matter includes women in dominant roles, acting out strange wars and take-overs in cross-sectioned settings such as a submarine, a corporate headquarter and landscapes. Her work has been called both powerfully post-feminist and anti-female. With a BA from UC, Berkeley, and a MFA from Yale, she lives in New York City and is represented by Mary Boone Gallery.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Harkness to Reno! Refreshments will follow the lecture in the Sheppard Gallery."
