Oktoberfest-With a Twist

A benefit produced by the Carson City Library Foundation

"The Carson High Chamber Choir will open festivities. Their performance will be followed by The Schnitzel Groovers, playing traditional polka music until 2:30 p.m. Hard-driving rock and blues will take to the stage from 3:00 p.m. to close with Blues Edge Band.

The Carson Nugget, a major sponsor, will be grilling tasty sausages. Along with savory brats, hot dogs, German potato salad, pretzels and sauerkraut; citrus-spiced Hefeweizen and harvest brews provided by Capital Beverages; delicious desserts; and oodles of family fun will be served at the fundraiser to benefit the Carson City Library. Friends of the Carson City Library will provide the Carson City version of die Budenstrasse, the famous fairway at the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, by hosting their own "Buchenstrasse", a pathway of hundreds of gently, used books at the ever popular book sale.

A compliment to the Friends' Book Sale will be a host of celebrated area authors. Invited authors will have their published books available for sale and book signings. Click here for a complete listing of visiting authors.

Oktoberfest contests such as dancing to the Chicken Dance, with Carson City Library's very own Dancing Chicken, an ice cream eating contest and stein holding contest will add to the fun and merriment. Guests are invited to wear traditional lederhosen (traditionally worn in the mountainous regions of Germany) and dirndls, the whimsical, folk-style dress worn by women in Germany.

The generous sponsorship of the Carson Nugget benefits Carson City Library in their commitment towards community involvement. An awakening of a vibrant downtown committed to public/private partnerships delivers opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Star Anderson, General Manager for the Carson Nugget notes, "The Carson Nugget is proud to be a major presenting sponsor with the Carson City Library. ... This partnership was made possible not only by the organization's commitment to "Community First", but by the unselfish 22 volunteers who are employed by the Carson Nugget. We look forward to a resounding success for the Oktoberfest event.""
