This spring, Douglas High School photography students participated in a six-week CCAI artist residency with Howard Goldbaum, artist and Associate Professor at UNR’s Reynolds School of Journalism.

As an artist/historian/journalist, Mr. Goldbaum specializes in creating virtual reality websites focused on areas of historical interest in both Nevada and abroad. The websites integrate panoramic photography with historical documentation, and allow the viewer to interact with the location through 360° views, detailed close-ups, background information, and on-site interviews.

Students photographed and researched the antique store and bar on main street along with other historic Genoa sites including the Genoa cemetery. Ron Bommarito, owner of the antique store and long-time Genoa resident, welcomed the students to look at his impressive antique collection, and provided interesting insights during an the interview. This semester Howard Goldbaum is CCAI Artists in Residence at Douglas High School in Minden Nevada. He began his residency with a slide show for students and faculty of historic and landscape sites around Nevada. Working with Professor Goldbaum, the DHS photography students will produce virtual reality photographic panoramas of historic buildings in Genoa.

Howard Goldbaum is an Associate Professor at the Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada Reno. He worked as a photojournalist, professor, and multimedia producer before moving from Illinois to Nevada in 2003. He has produced many virtual reality panoramas of sites around Nevada and in Ireland.

Nevada: The Photography of Cliff Segerblom

The exhibit Nevada: The Photography of Cliff Segerblom is now on display at the Nevada State Museum through August 2, 2011. The exhibition of 25 large format black and white photographs invites viewers to explore the immense changes that have occurred in Nevada from 1938 - 1980.

Cliff Segerblom was chief photographer for the Bureau of Reclamation Hoover Dam Project. His photographs have been published in Life, Time, and National Geographic magazines and displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City where his work is part of the permanent collection. The Nevada exhibition was organized by the Springs Preserve of Las Vegas and presented by the Nevada State Museum.

Vertical Landscapes: Wet/Dry (Revisited)

Nevada Arts Council OXS Office Exhibition Series 716 N. Carson Street, Suite A Carson City Dean Burton “Vertical Landscapes: Wet/Dry (Revisited)” The Nevada Arts Council presents "Vertical Landscapes: Wet/Dry (Revisited)" a series of photographs by Dean Burton, in its Carson City office through April 1 as part of the Office eXhibition Series (OXS). This series reflects Burton's interest in making photographs using optical and chemical techniques that evolved during his experimentation with panoramic photography. “Wet/Dry (Revisited)” is sub-set of the “Vertical Landscapes” series which grew out of Burton’s trips throughout the West. Juxtaposing ocean/water scenes with a variety of desert textures, he explores the counterpoints of this body of work. Burton is currently a Professor of Art at the Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, NV. In 2011, he will be featured in The Altered Landscape collection catalogue from the Nevada Museum of Art.
