Closing artist reception and ice cream social with a talk given by May Hariri Aboutaam, curator of the Every Tree Counts Print Portfolio Exchange.

"More than 500 participants* were asked to illustrate their own perspectives by carving one side of a wooden cube. Each cube represents a current story found in a national/international article, internet posting, or magazine. The culminating project includes artists from the United States, Canada, England and South Africa. Within two years, 95 cubes were carved.

'By sharing a cube consisting of the same story, some artists connected with each other in their communities, while others shared one story with strangers in other places,' Nicol said. 'Participants responded to one another’s marks, their visual images and the initial story.'

The Reno Bike Project

We he(ART) Bikes Art Show

The Reno Bike Project presents its second annual bike art show and fund-raiser. Join us at Grayspace Gallery and Holland HQ and enjoy a variety of bike-themed art. Purchase paintings, photos and multi-media pieces from artists such as Ahren Hertel, Chris Carnel, Candace Nicol and many more. Profits help support Grayspace, The Holland Project and the Reno Bike Project, a nonprofit group that encourages cycling in the Truckee Meadows. We will be auctioning off a bicycle rack made by Anthony Alston out of an organ. Support provided by the Sierra Arts Foundation, the Nevada Arts Council and New Belgium Brewing.

When: 6 p.m. Sat., April 26.

"In May of 2006 well known artists and educators, Jim McCormick, Candace Nicol, and Nolan Preece called together other northern Nevada artists to form the Northern Nevada Printmakers’ Conspiracy. The group is organized around a love of printmaking and the objective is to expand the audience for fine art prints. Fine art prints, or original prints, are works of art printed from a matrix which is hand made by the artist for the sole purpose of creating the desired image. The matrix may be a carved block, an etched plate, a cut stencil or other device for transferring an image. The resulting impression is not a copy but an original work of art."
